ORIGINAL INVITATION:
Hello All,
The Midwest Regional conference of the Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism (CCDS) is being held in Louisville in the Forum Room at the Central Presbyterian Church (4th/Kentucky) from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2009.
Following that meeting (after enough time to grab a bite to eat) will be a reconvening meeting of the old Coalition for the People's Agenda, with which many of you are very familiar.
Several years ago, that Coalition for The People's Agenda flourished (especially from 2002-2005) in Louisville. It claimed, profoundly, that, "Another Community Is Possible: Heal, Restore, Transform;" and had as its Vision Statement the following:
"We, The Coalition for The People's Agenda, look forward to the day when our governing bodies represent all the people of the community--particul arly those individuals and groups that have been traditionally marginalized and historically underserved; when the culture in which we live, work, learn and play is socially and economically just; and when ALL peoples, regardless of age, color, disability, economic status, gender, national origin, religion or sexual orientation are treated with equality and fairness."
If you were one of those who supported the Coalition for The People's Agenda and its call for specific actions in eight issue areas
(Civil and Human Rights;
Community Governance;
Criminal Justice System and Citizen Protection;
Economic Development through Community
Empowerment;
Education and Youth Empowerment;
Environmental Protection, Public Health, and
Human Services;
Housing; and
Workers' Rights),
or just believe that the Coalition's call for another, better community and its Vision Statement and more specific proposals make sense today, please come to both the CCDS Regional conference and the meeting of the Coalition in the Forum Room of the
Central Presbyterian Church at
4th and Kentucky Streets from
5:30-6:30 p.m. on
Saturday, September 19.
HOPE TO SEE MANY OF YOU THERE !!!
In Solidarity,
Eddie Davis
